C. Buddha's Hasty Musings
Raising a family in Thailand // Documenting Issan food, culture, music, and people
This might not fly too well in the states.
At the big Korean supermarket in my area they used to sell these Oreo ripoff cookies from Korea called ‘Black White” or something and they had a cartoon picture of a ‘white’ kid who looked normal enough and a ‘black’ kid who was so grotesque (huge lips, pitch black skin) that a bone through his nose, while not there, would not have looked out of place.
Unfortunately when I brought my camera to the market the next month the cookies were gone. I mean, I guess it’s a good thing that the scourge of Korean racism was stamped out, but I wanted to record it for posterity, you know?
REminds me of “Darkie” toothpaste from Malaysia!
