At the big Korean supermarket in my area they used to sell these Oreo ripoff cookies from Korea called ‘Black White” or something and they had a cartoon picture of a ‘white’ kid who looked normal enough and a ‘black’ kid who was so grotesque (huge lips, pitch black skin) that a bone through his nose, while not there, would not have looked out of place.
Unfortunately when I brought my camera to the market the next month the cookies were gone. I mean, I guess it’s a good thing that the scourge of Korean racism was stamped out, but I wanted to record it for posterity, you know?
