Best Product Name 2013 – “I Like Vaggie”

    January 30, 2013 /

I’m going to declare this the automatic winner for 2013, even though it’s only January. I found it for sale in the canned goods isle of our new Tesco Lotus megastore. This is a can of vegetarian fried rice that I assume was supposed to be, “I Like Veggies.” It isn’t “I Like Veggies,” however, it’s “I LIKE VAGGIE.” That’s rude, crude, and totally the best product name of 2013.

The Beginning of the Golden Age – Freestyle Cool J 1985

    January 30, 2013 /

This video is mindblowing on so many levels – it’s the earliest footage of LL performing vocally (there is apparently earlier footage of him breaking). There’s a small crowd in the college gym that’s apparently getting its first taste of rapping/scratching. LL explains what he’s going to do before actually doing it; at this point, he hasn’t even released his first album! If you click through to the YouTube page, the son of the man that hired LL for this performance reveals details in the comments.

Thai TESOL Conference – After Action Report

    January 27, 2013 /

My workshop went pretty well, I was told. One of the participants told me it was the most useful thing she saw at the conference, which was very nice to hear. The biggest problem I faced was that the provided wifi was very unreliable, which made it very difficult for the audience to interact in real-time, but it eventually worked out when the network stabilized halfway through. One attendee asked if I knew about Edmodo and asked why he should use my system instead of it. I told him that I’d like to show him why at the end of the workshop, and then he disappeared and missed out on…

    Thailand TESOL International Conference 2013

    January 25, 2013 /

I’ll be running a 45-minute workshop tomorrow at this year’s Thai TESOL Conference entitled, “Using Technology to Aid in Teaching Oversized ESL Classes.” This is the first time I’m attending the conference, and I decided if I was going to pay the stiff entry fee, I was at least going to have some fun with it. I talked to a few people today who have been repeatedly turned down as presenters, so I guess I was lucky to be accepted. Wish me luck!

I take quite a few photos of random riders; I can’t believe this is the first “generations” photo I’ve posted for seven years! The last one was in Vientiane.
