Monkey Time at Kosamphi Forest Park
A few weeks ago we decided to go out for a drive. It was time to take Max for his first visit to the monkey park in the nearby town of Kosum Phisai, so we put his car seat in the trusty old Kujira and were on our way. We took the Kujira instead of the Cefiro because: Monkeys are little bastards that scratch up cars for fun Max sleeps really well in the Crown with its worn suspension and lulling vibration It’s a proper cruising car!! Max spots some fellow monkeys! To a normal person, this might just look like a bunch of monkeys sitting in a row, but…

smell my armpit
I forgot to post my instructional photo on how to harvest bananas, caveman style: Unable to hold the clump with one hand while chopping with the other (the clump was hanging over into the neighbor’s yard in an awkward position – don’t worry they got their cut!), I instead used E. Honda power to rip it off. This was taken a couple months ago in our backyard. We pretty much have the best tasting bananas in the world, and they are the perfect food for babies. We even sun-dried some and made chips. Yum! P.S. That’s an empty bird’s nest constructed in between the fruit. We’d spotted it before but…

Where do stolen Japanese bikes go? ????????????????
Well, many of them end up in Thailand: One of two bicycle stores in town selling only stolen bikes from Japan that we visited this week (we’re looking for a Japanese-style child seat). This shop is the bigger one and has perhaps 50 bikes in stock. They park the merch on the dirt in front of the shop (a townhouse across from Big C Mahasarakham) during the day. Anybody in Japan want to call Mr. Makino and tell him where his mountain bike is? He can have it back for 3,500 Baht plus shipping. I should get an award from the police or something for doing their jobs. It’s been…

Sunday Drive
Last Sunday we took a family drive around the outskirts of town and ended up at some sluice gates we always see from the highway. They are adjacent to the parking lot of what may still be a popular outdoor live house called Amazon Park. The sky was perfect and Max fell asleep as I coaxed our trusty sedan over muddy back roads usually used only by gravel trucks and water buffalo.

Hack Boy
I finally found a use for my 10 year old screaming 333MHz G3 iBook! I never threw it away because I was too fond of it, and what a great bit of luck – this is the best baby computer, ever! It’s built like a tank and so far still operates normally even though Max abuses it with great abandon…

Our New Thai House Part 5 – The Blessing Way
The end of 2007 coincided with the milestone of 98% or so of the basic house being completed, so we decided to move in on New Years Day. We invited some monks for a blessing ceremony and they did us up well. It was the first time we were living in a new house. This coupled with the fact that we were one of the very first houses up in the neighborhood and hence kind of solitary made for a strange but very relaxing time coming home after work every day. I mean, in front of the house was our pond and around us was future house plots and rice…

Want your wallet back, daddy?
The other day I was holding him and trying to get money from an ATM. When the cash was about to pop out, I opened my wallet in anticipation, and Max grabbed the sheaf of bills contained inside in a monkeylike flash and motioned like he was going to throw them in the air… There were lots of people waiting behind us, so it caused quite a stir.

I scream
This has nothing to do with the photo, but last week we went to the fish sanctuary again and suddenly found ourselves surrounded on five sides by a billy goat, a baby goat, a huge yellow frog, a stray dog, and a tethered brown cow. It was quite exciting because we had a loaf of sliced bread to give to the catfish, but ended up feeding the mammals instead (the frog wasn’t having any of it and hopped away).
