Last Sunday we took a family drive around the outskirts of town and ended up at some sluice gates we always see from the highway. They are adjacent to the parking lot of what may still be a popular outdoor live house called Amazon Park. The sky was perfect and Max fell asleep as I coaxed our trusty sedan over muddy back roads usually used only by gravel trucks and water buffalo.

Our New Thai House Part 5 – The Blessing Way
The end of 2007 coincided with the milestone of 98% or so of the basic house being completed, so we decided to move in on New Years Day. We invited some monks for a blessing ceremony and they did us up well.
It was the first time we were living in a new house. This coupled with the fact that we were one of the very first houses up in the neighborhood and hence kind of solitary made for a strange but very relaxing time coming home after work every day. I mean, in front of the house was our pond and around us was future house plots and rice fields. It was very cool. We bought some golden lions to protect our house, and they have worked out very well.

This isn’t necessarily the end of the Our New Thai House series, but it marks the end of the first chapter.

Want your wallet back, daddy?
The other day I was holding him and trying to get money from an ATM. When the cash was about to pop out, I opened my wallet in anticipation, and Max grabbed the sheaf of bills contained inside in a monkeylike flash and motioned like he was going to throw them in the air… There were lots of people waiting behind us, so it caused quite a stir.
I scream
This has nothing to do with the photo, but last week we went to the fish sanctuary again and suddenly found ourselves surrounded on five sides by a billy goat, a baby goat, a huge yellow frog, a stray dog, and a tethered brown cow. It was quite exciting because we had a loaf of sliced bread to give to the catfish, but ended up feeding the mammals instead (the frog wasn’t having any of it and hopped away).
…and we’re back!
Daddy did something incredible and isolated a problem with the inverter for the broken LCD monitor, which enabled the broken component to be replaced by an unlicensed professional working out of an unventilated solder trap of a storefront.
Here is a snapshot of daddy’s progress before Max came over to assault with a cup of yogurt:
Adam in the The Herald Monterey County
His project at the Monterey Bay Aquarium hooks up disabled kids with a diving experience – how cool!

Damn, I still can’t believe my little brother and sister are working at the aquarium – it was such a big part of our lives from when we were little…
Rain no come
We did everything in our powers to make the rain come today: Washed both cars, watered the garden and lawn, and even washed the old motorbike. It never came, though. Usually just washing one car this time of year is enough to make it rain on the spot. We stop trying to keep the cars clean during this 2 or 3 month period, because it’s impossible to keep it that way for more than a day, usually.
Oh well, Max had fun all day and is sleeping now.
Pink Magic Window
My dad sent my sister’s favorite old toy in a care package. I wanted to look it up on the net but I couldn’t think of what it might be called or even how to describe it. Luckily, the product name was molded into the clear plastic case in very small raised lettering, “MAGIC WINDOW.” Behold our glow-in-the-dark model Wham-o Magic Window:
Of course I had to take some shots in the dark:
And then I had a moment of inspiration, but had only one window to take long exposures without waking baby or mommy:
I am taking very special care of this new/old toy. I don’t know where or when my sister got it, but it was probably made in 1974 or 1975.
FYI, it’s currently worth about $80 to $100 on eBay.
