…using precut nori patterns she found in Japan on her last trip. Max used to not like eating rice, so this was a ploy to get him interested in it. As it turned out, telling him it would make him as fast as a ninja was the best motivator.
The soup at the top is similar to something we’ve had in Japan and Korea before. In Thai, it’s called “gaeng joot,” literally a plain soup.
Max has finally ditched the third and fourth wheels. We tried to get Mina on two wheels at the same time, but her sense of balance isn’t there yet. The moment of releasing your child to go forth on two wheels is a mix of hopeful expectation and fear of terrible crashes. Luckily, the early start of rainy season we experienced last week provided the best learning surface available – softened fields of dusty expanse.
A killer lunch that Nam made a while back.
Some katsu (breaded and deep fried) pork and veggies Nam made a while ago. Eaten with Bulldog sauce, of course (licking Bulldog off the tip of your chopsticks is tasting Japanese culture).
She made it with mommy a couple months ago, and proceeded to eat it all.
She has since graduated to eating full-blown Lao-style somtam that can make grown men cry.
I’ve been archiving photos from Nam’s Samsung Grande and realized she’s been taking a lot of food photos. I used to do this, but stopped carrying a smartphone, and my tablet doesn’t have a front facing camera (hence the Facebook #Facecuts series I started). So I’ll be uploading a bunch of photos documenting what we’ve been eating recently.

Today is the sunniest rainy day I’ve ever seen; it’s completely still and over a hundred degrees outside. It’s so hot, the rain leaves no mark on the pavement.
