Cockroach Reanimation at 2k views
My most popular YouTube vid, by far, is Cockroach Reanimation with Electro-stimulation, which just passed over 200,000 views. The viewing demographic is overwhelmingly 13-17 year old boys who like to point out that the cockroach “isn’t actually coming to life, it’s something about electrical impulses and nerves and something scientific-er than that, (insert insult of choice).”
I have mixed feelings about this vid – it’s brought out all the little Mr. Wizards and smartasses and even one scary guy who requested electrocution of bigger things – but in the end, it’s nice to have a kind of popular YouTube upload that I made with a $1 electronic device and a dead/reanimated (just kidding, kids!) insect:
White Pointers vs. Great Whites
Pretty much everybody interested in sharks has seen this photo by now:

Here’s a video with interesting aerial photos of the sharks in this area (Cape Cod).
If you live in Cali, you probably know that just the day before, a Great White attacked a kayak in Santa Cruz.
What you might not know is that the following week, one of the most intense videos ever recorded of a shark was taken by a couple guys who, luckily, happened to have spear guns and a camera rolling in the open ocean:
And soon after, some poor surfer in Perth was bitten in half and eaten by a 16-foot monster.

Have they always craved human flesh so?
Or does outlawing killing them make us seem weak?
(because we all know that predators go after the weak….)
Shoukichi Kina and Ry Cooder at Todaiji
Thanks to corporate greed, the album this was released on, Blood Line, hasn’t been available for decades. It is largely unknown. I want to make it available again, because it’s worth it.

Fred Rogers, master of the old school
Spurred by the recent Garden of Your Mind video, I downloaded several dozen episodes of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and showed a few to Max and Mina yesterday in the background as they played with legos and watercolors. Mina was indifferent, but Max was entranced for a good while. There’s a lot of talking on this show, and I seem to remember that being an annoyance to me when I was watching it thirty plus years ago. Max seemed to lose interest as Fred droned on and on about things, but perked up during psychedelic trolley scenes and horrifying puppet shows – just as I remember doing. So if you want to try something old school in your kids’ TV lineup, you might try MRN.
And of course, watching any breaking video is a good enough reason to show Little Superstar again:
