The fourth pic down in this very uncleverly-titled gallery is what I believe to be a prototype of the breastfeeding vest my sister described on Skype the other day (The overall feeling of that page reminded me of chain emails from eight or nine years ago.).
UPDATE: Link fixed!
Underneat this

Okay so this is how I imagine this conversation went:
Walmart Employee: “Hello ‘dis be Walmarts, how can I help you?”
Customer: ” I would like to order a cake for a going away party this week.”
Walmart Employee: “What you want on the cake?”
Customer: “Best Wishes Suzanne” and underneath that “We will miss you”.

Bonus question: Which is better, Walmart cake or third-world cake?
Why we switched to disposable diapers…

UPDATE: I forgot that the extended entry appears automatically in my RSS feed. I apologize for terrorizing any of my feed readers (although it appears I’ve already scared one into not having children). This is the true power of poop.

I mentioned previously that we were devoting much effort to going greener by using cloth diapers. Well today, I am officially announcing we are going ungreen and switching mainly to disposables.
There are 3 main reasons for this:
- Cloth diapers can no longer hold his big loads (we started supplementing breast milk with formula, which causes rather, erm, voluminous eruptions)
- Disposable diapers very effectively draw wetness away from his skin, allowing him to sleep through several wettings (cloth diapers pretty much have to be changed immediately)
- Washing 20-30 diapers plus 15-20 towels, changing sheets, and body wraps of various sizes every day is feasible only if weather conditions are favorable (dry and sunny) since we employ neither bleach nor a clothes dryer. It has been raining quite often as of late (very strange for this time of year), and if washing 30 diapers in a day sounds bad, you should try washing 90 after two straight days of rain! (yes, we have quite a few.)
Anyways, if you have the stomach for it, I have decided to illustrate the first point above in the clearest way possible. Click on the link below IF YOU DARE.
poopy record
I’m quite sure this post will have future iterations as the baby will only get bigger, but today he made the biggest poopy of his life and I must describe it here for future reference.
It was actually a huge load split into three: The first was the standard mound of dijonlike goodness in his mammypoko diaper; the second was caught on the plastic sheet we use expressly for the purpose of catching stray shots when doing a nappy change; the third was a yellow cordlike mass shaped as a figure eight on his blanket that escaped when mommy thought the bombardment was over and moved him off the sheet to look for a fresh diaper.
I didn’t take a photo because I have more class than that (or maybe because it was too early in the morning, you choose).
furo da
The other day, Miwa-san came over and gave Max a bath. Miwa-san is a Japanese nurse studying at Mahasarakham University (Dept. of Medicine since the Dept. of Nursing isn’t running a post grad program quite yet) who has been helping us with great advice, but is going back to Japan this month or next since her coursework is complete. I’ll write more about her later on.
Max was a lot calmer compared to when we were giving him baths, so we watched carefully to see what she did differently. I eventually came to the conclusion it had less to do with a soft touch than an experienced touch.
Here is Max enjoying himself:

A Week Without Updates
- Lost his umbilical stub (healing nicely)
- Reached 2900 grams (born at 2500)
- Spit the dummy several times
- Started smiling in fleeting spurts, almost like a nervous tic
- Started drinking formula to augment mommy’s milk
- Been dropping heavier loads in his diapers as a result of drinking formula
- Had his finger and toenails trimmed several times
aaaand…we’re back!
So apparently our telephone lines got waterlogged from one of the storms spawned by the cyclone last week…. Never heard that one before, but it was apparently enough to add resistance or noise that interfered with the synchronization of the DSL connection.
Strange.
Line down
Just a quick note: Our DSL at home is down after some big gusts from the big typhoon in Burma last week. Not sure what the problem is, but Friday was off so the telecom guys are enjoying a 3 day weekend.
Updates will resume when out internet service does.
Oh I almost forgot: My supervisor from school came over to see Max a couple days ago and he farted in her arms so loudly she almost dropped him. It was AWESOME WIND!!
