Miami Vice Theme Song

Speaking of movies, apparently Michael Mann decided he wanted “nothing to do with the TV series” and hence did not use Jan Hammer’s original masterpiece in the new Miami Vice movie. Apparently there’s no Phil Collins or Glen Frey either.
Nothing to do with the original series, eh? That means no Daytona, no Testarossa, not even a Bren Ten! Hmm… I think it’s safe to say, the new movie won’t even come close to touching the Perfect Scene:

  1. I saw it and enjoyed it. Stylized action portrayal of vice cops undercover. I thought it did justice to the tv series, which I liked.
There were quite a few differences in the styles between the 1980s Crockett and Tubbs and the present, but the differences are merely updates in style and fashion. The storyline remained true.
I think it was worth seeing, if for no other reason than such visual feasts as high-power go-fast boats planing across the ocean at night; top-end ferraris and bentleys rocketing dangerously through late-night traffic; gunplay, and suspense that comes with danger.

  2. I saw it last night, and I liked it as well. My only complaint is that there were so many people leeching the torrent – YOHOHO!
Now that I think about it, maybe Michael Mann wasn’t being arrogant by separating the movie from the series. Maybe he understood that to take on the old series was starting on losing ground. Still, having covers of the original songs done by unknown (at least to me) artists was perhaps going a bit far.
Now I’m really looking forward to his own remake of HEAT in 2007.
