{"id":564,"date":"2006-08-24T13:35:47","date_gmt":"2006-08-24T13:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/2006\/08\/torii-of-kyushu\/"},"modified":"2006-08-24T13:35:47","modified_gmt":"2006-08-24T13:35:47","slug":"torii-of-kyushu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/2006\/08\/24\/torii-of-kyushu\/","title":{"rendered":"Torii of Kyushu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt010.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt010.JPG\" width=\"602\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nThis torii is built on the banks of the lake in the tourist town of Yufuin, Oita-ken.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt020.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt020.JPG\" width=\"602\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nThis one and the next torii are in the small coastal city of Usuki, on the same grounds that house the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/archives\/000878.html\">magaibutsu<\/a>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt021.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt021.JPG\" width=\"602\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nThe forests of bamboo and deciduous trees filters the light into intense beams that pierce the thick shadows. I can&#8217;t describe it well, but these places evoke similar feelings that I felt when I visited the aincent churches in Toledo, Spain.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt080.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt080.JPG\" width=\"602\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nThe shrine at Udo Jingu resides inside of a cave on the Miyazaki coastline. I recommend going just before it closes. There are fewer people at this time, which is always a nice thing. I got goosebumps walking through the cave and looking at the ancient shrine with the auto focus light on my camera.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt084.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt084.JPG\" width=\"602\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nThis one is also on the grounds of Udo Jingu, on the way up a forgotten stairway to some ruins on the top of a hill.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt089.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt089.JPG\" width=\"602\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nA lava floe forced the residents of Sakura-jima, in Kagoshima-ken, to flee for their lives. Days before, the water started to bubble, and dead fish floated to the shores of the volcanic island. Those wise enough to heed the warning escaped. This torii stands next to an elementary school on the island, mostly buried in magma that has frozen into volcanic rock.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt092.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt092.JPG\" width=\"400\" height=\"602\" \/><br \/>\nThis torii stands in front of a shrine on the entrance to Iso Teien.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt095.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt095.JPG\" width=\"400\" height=\"602\" \/><br \/>\nTucked away in the gardens of Iso Teien, on the outskirts of Kagoshima city, is this Torii that serves as the entrance to the tombs of members of the Shimadzu clan.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"krt097.JPG\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cosmicbuddha.com\/adam\/krt097.JPG\" width=\"602\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nA strangely pruned tree sits in front of a shrine in Kagoshima.
