Douched

sleeper_wave.jpg

Perched behind a cliff, I thought I was in a good position to get some good shots of waves pounding against the rocks. I was right, but a huge "sleeper wave" sucked the receeding water back, swelled up, and smashed into the cliff, flowing along the contour right at my camera!

My new shoes and pants got soaked, but thankfully my camera was not damaged. I walked away dripping and sandy with a smile on my face, quite aware of just how lucky I was.

I don't think I'll be trying that again anytime soon...

Ben:

That's an awesome photo though! Water, moisture, and especially salt water, are the ultimate evils to all cameras. There are some special bags to place your camera in, so that you only risk the lens cover getting wet, but I have yet to buy one. What kind of camera are you using?

stu:

well worth the hassle! it's a cracking photo. hokusai-tastic. where was it taken?

Adam:

Thanks for the comments guys. To answer you questions, I'm shooting with a Nikon D50, and the picture was taken at sunset in Seaside, just North of Monterey (in California).

Ben:

Cool! Jeez, I think the last time I was in Carmel and Monterey must have been like 5 years ago...dang that goes by fast! I'm using a Canon 20D
