The rim of the largest caldera in the world, overlooking Aso-machi. If you look closely,
you can see steam rising from Aso-san. Sulphuric fumes released from the top of Aso kill a couple of people each year, mostly the old or sick. Recently Aso mountain has been acting a bit "sassy", and so sometimes you can't go up (depending on how the volcano has been feeling recently).
Lately the weather has warmed up considerably to the point where I can comfortably wear two layers of clothes in the mountains, and a shirt and shorts in the city! Bugs have begun to come out of hibernation and are slowly making a comeback. I can no longer use my whole kitchen as a giant refrigerator. The snow is disappearing slowly, although the shady sections of the roads remain slick and dangerous (last year, around this time, a friend of mine flipped his car on a warm, sunny afternoon and had to get driven to the airport so that he could make it up to Osaka to watch J5 perform). Hanami is just around the corner, and I think that I am finally getting over my cold (that I caught right when I came back from Korea). Its Monday and I'm exhausted already, but at least we have good weather.

Ha, thats funny the sun is out there, still cold but not wet. Here in La La Land it is supose to pour rain. The poor people who lost everything during the fires are now in danger of flash floods and land slides.
I always wonder if it is true if a butterfly's wings can really affect the weather in other parts of the world. If so I think that those bugs you speak so highly of are causing my shoes to be soaked.
Hey remember our first year when it rained so hard they cancelled class and all the trees fell down. Yeah that was a great day, we all had fun and I ended up with a freakin' wife. What the hell happened that night?

Dude, that sucks about the rain. Rain can be a good thing, but when your house gets burnt down and a mudslide is slowly filling up your house, it just seems like God is pissing AND taking a Shat on you. Rain isn't all bad though. Remember mud football in front of Anacapa?
Lol, I thought I had it bad- my bike got crushed by a huge eucalyptus branch that turned it into a woman's bike, but in retrospect it was you that got it the worst (um...ahem, what I meant to say was that you were the luckiest out of us all- don't hurt me Rebecca ;).
Yeah, I recall going to my 8:00 discussion, crossing rivers that were thigh deep on campus, only to learn that the T.A. wasn't gonna make it. When I got back all hypothermic, you told me that right after I left, there was an announcement that all classes for the day were cancelled.
Something always comes to mind when I remember that giant pissing storm- Chris Farley dressed up as "El Nino" in a pink and teal colored mariachi outfit saying "I am El Nino! El Nino is Spanish for... The Nino!". Ah good times.

I've always wondered if the water in the onsen gets warmer when the volcanos become more active. Have you noticed any of the hot springs getting more steamy or bubbly during an active spell? (Other than doing rude bubbles yourself, that is.) Are these sulfurous hot springs? Or some other type of mineral? Are any reputedly of the "healing waters" type, or is that just hype?
Just wondering.

HEY! It's a good thing that I have a sense of humor. Don't worry Adam, I was just telling a friend yesterday about the time you felloff your bike and Brian ran over you, breaking your rib. Oh wait, I shouldn't provoke you, since you did walk in on us that one time....
LOL

Aaaugh! The memories... Make them stop!!! Just kidding, but seriously it will be good to see everyone again at someone's wedding, get drunk, and remember and possibly reinact old stories from college. Ooh, I can't wait!

RE: El Nino
Don't forget. Aside from the several bike misadventures of Aero Adam, the eucalyptus trees falling was the best thing for the lagoon. With all the legal issues surrounding the chopping down of mankind planted trees, El Nino left us with a much appreciated view for the rest of our college days.
I will never forget my perspective of the "walk-in" incident. Adam coming over to our place wreckless and definitely abandoned! Brian and Rebecca, you need to know that I laughed for about an hour at Adam's expense for that one...come to think of it, I did a lot of laughing at Adam's expense.
Adam: "F@#$ you guys. Stop making me laugh. It hurts!"
Me: "Where does it hurt? Here?"
Adam: "Oouch! You bastard."
Me: "Oh, does this hurt?"
Adam: "Oouch! Stop it."
Brian or Chris or both: (POKE)
Adam: "Ouch! Damnit it f@#$ing hurts. Stop."
(Random laughing)
(Repeat dialogue over and over for about a half an hour at a time. Revisit a couple of times a day)
Ahh. The memories.
