Its About Friggin Time!

Hahahahaha! As of today, I have a working ISDN connection! Thats right, now I can connect from home for a fixed rate instead of paying 100 bucks per month just for the phone bill! Why am I excited about ISDN? Do you know what it feels like to have to read the newspaper while a simple email takes 5 minutes to load? You would be starved for bandwidth too if all you could get for a whole year was 56k.That being said, when is ADSL gonna arrive in my sparsely populated village? I know its gonna come right after I leave, because it wouldn't make sense any other way.

64k? 128?

Mike La:

hey, adam. congrats on the ISDN. sure beats the 56k i continue to get, even back at home. hope you're not using up your entire salary to pay it though...and what's this about a newspaper? you actually pay an additional bill to get the paper when you could easily read it online? i only noticed it once I left japan, but all those crazy bills took a huge chunk out of my savings and play money. damn! if you didn't need a connection for your computer, i'd say cut the apartment phone line, and keep your cell phone. i think that's what i'd do if i were still living there. too bad i didn't think of it earlier...

Adam:

Yeah 64k rocks compared to 56! Now that I have a home connection, Sky Perfect, and a 20 pack of instant ramen, I can live the life of a hermit in perfect comfort.
Did you say save money? People do that?

J:

Dude it's not just the line speed it's the latency, which is actually good for ISDN in Japan. In the US this is not always the case. Must have to do with the pureness of Japanese copper...
