  1. I used to up in the mountains around Saitama with my dad when I was 5 or 6, and get yamaimo. You had dig a long ways to get a reasonable amount – because the wild ones were pretty thin. How did them things taste? Similar to yamaimo?

  2. Did you know they call taro, carrot, in Bali/Indonesian? On the airplane, I was offered carrot cake with shrimp and chili sauce for breakfast, and went for it. It was the most delicious airplane food ever: savory fried rice with shrimp, green onions & veggies, and a sublime red chili sauce that was the perfect balance of sweet-spicy-sour, with yummy, creamy pieces of taro mixed in! Later, in Singapore, I ordered carrot cake at a dim sum place and got the dim sum fried cake form, and it too, was tasty!
